I've finally started at the new job. Let me know if you're having trouble with your employer, I can send them an email that should scare them into shape.

I'm working for the sort of government department departments wouldn't want to hear from, as long as they don't dig too deep and look at my job title

"Why yes, I do apologise to my cat when she meows at me for not brushing her exactly the way she likes. Don't you?"

Oh joy. Impending major restructuring at my workplace. No redundancies, more like the drive-the-people-remaining-to-breaking-point strategy.

My 11th year may end up being my last, time to dust off the resume and get the hell out of here :| At least I hit my LSL eligibility beforehand... :\

I’m now afraid for reproductive rights in Australia.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Nah. It'll be alright. We don't generally go backwards. We go at a snails pace forward unless it's a pay rise for pollies then it's all speed ahead.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago

We don’t generally go backwards.

This is generally true. Except for the destruction of medicare, loss of local manufacturing industry, no taxation on our mineral resources, expensive and half useless universities and no consequences for government corruption

Jesus Christ I HATE watching this US news, but I cant look away! Some folks are already calling it and I think I might throw up. Thats not a joke or an exaggeration.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago (7 children)

The fact that it's this close speaks volumes of the US population.

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is also how biased the US electoral system is to maintain the Status Quo.

Every time the Republicans get in, the cripple democracy a little bit at a time. When the Democrats get in, they don’t do anything to roll back the damage.

It has finally come to the Endgame for US Democracy.

All we can do is make sure that our elected officials are aware that it is not something that we want in Australia.

They need mandatory voting, at the very least

[–] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm very thankful for our electoral system.

So there’s now literal children buying anti-aging products like retinol and there’s a hair disclosing spray so women can completely defuzz their whole faces?

People are getting preventative Botox and giving themselves gastroparesis by using Ozempic and 20 year olds are either removing the fat from their cheeks or getting fillers? Celebrities with slightly crooked teeth are getting full veneers or caps?

Earlier periods of history got a bad reputation for their rigid beauty standards and rightfully so but I feel like it’s all much more out of control now because internet. Modern beauty standards are insane.

Screw that I’m crawling back under my rock

My cat's heart isn't working well and he doesn't have a great prognosis, but he's well and happy in himself and I'm focusing on that. We'll be ok.

I've just ordered takeaway for the first time in yonks. Fried goodness is now on the way to me and in the meantime I've poured a glass of wine. I will enjoy it and not wallow.

And I'm putting my fingers in my ears and ignoring the news out of the US.

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

Many hugs to you and puss. ❀️

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

I’m sorry. I’m hoping he has some more good days and can soak up the love for as long as possible

So one of the clients I look after, is cracking the shits about something that I have no control over.

I really hope I don't get scapegoated over this.

Fingers crossed.

Edit: spoke to our GM, he said not to freak out and no one's getting fired. The issues probs have very little to do with me.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

World news aside, I've finished my first day at the new job. I think I need to get past induction and do some actual work, and start working from home, before I can decide if this was the right choice.

I think it will be. I need to remember how shit my old work was, even before things for really bad. Once I get started I won't wish I got things right in the old role, because even when things were working, they were just barely, and things were still shit

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago (21 children)

Just as a little moment of grounding... What are we all having for dinner on this sombre evening? I gotta use up my other half tin of coconut cream, so I'm going to do a rich tomato curry with tvp balls that I also need to use up. Along with the leftover everything-in-one veggie and dal curry and boiled eggs my aunt gave me.

I’m still fairly limited in what I’m able to have but a few squares of dark chocolate just climbed into my mouth

I don't like this reality can we reset the simulation pls.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Now is the time to narrow my view, focus in on my own world, school, partner, Mickey, coffee, chocolate, beer. I don't want to know about the world anymore, not for a while. I can't let this drag my mood down. I have good things in my life idc about anything else lol

I'm trying to explain to the cat that he can't have breakfast because the nice vet is going to give him medicine to go to sleep and do some special scans.

He's just looking at me with his trusting little face, like ok that's fine but can we have chicken now please? I did tell you I'm hungry?

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Poor kitty :(

Hope the scans go well.

Thanks :) He's been dropped off now so someone else can deal with his small sad noises.

So I put in a request to cancel my group fitness membership after the next billing. Will check out the local council gym and also another one to try and get my mum to come along.

[–] danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago (4 children)

The real question about the US Election is do they get democracy sausages?

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not sure they'll even have democracy much longer, sausages are probably pushing it.

No. In fact, some states have passed laws prohibiting the distribution of refreshments to people waiting in line to vote

I had a bunch of random fruits shoveled into my bag at the free food market today. Including gold kiwi fruit that I don't really like, so this afternoon's job will be kiwifruit chutney. I'll also chop up the peaches for the freezer (they are generally a bit bruised and not great for eating fresh).

I also got some chicken to roast and lots of salad kits, so meal prep has pretty much sorted itself out for the next few days!
