General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Good. It's bonkers we were handing out non-means-tested fuel benefits to pensioners living in million pound homes, while young people and families in genuine need were struggling.

Pure Tory pork-barrel politics to bribe the one generation that most reliably voted for them. Now let's get rid of the pension triple lock next please.

Pensioners have it too good? Is that the line here?

So from this graph we can say that with all the government help they receive pensioners are about as poor as working people without kids. And that's bad. Pensioners should be poorer than working people

labour be like

Anyone who actually needs the winter fuel payment will still get it - people who get pension credits for example. There are many pensioners getting winter fuel payments that are plenty well off and do not need the free cash, my Grandma is one of them. She will make a fuss about how she needs it but she is by far the most well off in our family.

Same here with my brother in law. He gives his pension to his wife as he doesn't need it. She gave up work because they can afford it.

Yeah because why bother reading? So much easier to just make up your own reality.

Even just read the title you would know how much of an idiot you sound. Literally says that they are removing it from people who are not on benefits therefore anyone who is on benefits is still going to get it.

This is also about communication strategy. We are make some fringe cuts now, but prepping for a big statement down the road.
