Either I'm reading more about shootings and killings or it seems like violence has significantly increased post COVID. Sounds like we'll be breaking records by the end of the year at this pace.

It's probably the former. According to data, homicides within the last 5 year have more or less been similar numbers, but that's just fatalities, and maybe violence without deaths has gone up.
There's also just general tension among drivers. With years of near zero consequences for traffic offenses, the number of dangerous scenarios and road rage seem to be on the rise. It's not great out there.
