Hey everyone, just a friendly reminder from your mod team. Don't forget to report bad actors, malicious bots, or rulebreakers whenever you see them. !asklemmy@lemmy.world is one of the larger communities in the threadverse and it's hard to keep up, even with a larger mod team, so please report bad behavior.

Ask Lemmy is currently in search of a person that can put together a simple, cute, and fun icon and masthead for this community. Drop a reply here with your ideas so we can jazz up this space a bit!

Peace, love, and fedi!

Leave a reply here and let's chat if you think you're man (or woman or non-binary) enough to moderate this juggernaut of a Fedi community.

Peace, Love, and Fedi.

EDIT: Moderator applications are now closed. To the ones who made the cut, let's get a group chat or something going so we can figure out what all to do with this thing.

Example: “You’re easily amused,” usually said in a condescending tone.

Well… yeah. I don’t want to be someone who’s difficult to amuse, and hardly ever laughs at anything. I know the implication is that I’m simple minded and can only enjoy lowbrow humor, but to me, it sounds like person calling me “easily amused” is the one with the problem enjoying life.

I appreciate a simple, silly joke, and the goodwill behind it - someone wanting to share something they thought was funny. Of course, I like nerdy inside jokes, but there’s nothing wrong with a bean meme, either.

My main use case for this is country specific instances.

I’m sure they are awesome, but I don’t speak, for instance, German. Despite this, a significant portion of my “all” feed is content from different

I tried signing up for an account on lemmy.world and I didn’t get a confirmation email… I tried to forget the password but it doesn’t go anywhere. Anyone know what I could do?

sorry for wording the title so badly. I realized on 3 different occasions today that googling something showed me reddit as top results but when clicking on the links, the communities were down (obviously). Problem is, the questions I had were pretty specific (jellyfin related) and I couldnt find answers anywhere else. so how do you guys handle this ?

We read the local laws and it said that employers should not have kids working during school hours unless they were doing alternate schooling.

I don't believe this kid is doing alternate school because the kid said "I can't work tomorrow because my teacher's coming to check in on me".

Do we ask the employer if they know they are employing a teenager who's skipping school? Do we leave a review? We didn't ask the kid their age so I will do that first if I see them again, not sure if there are other questions to ask.

Obviously we don't want to tarnish anyone's reputation unnecessarily but this is a very serious matter.

I live in a developed country (free healthcare, etc). There is poverty in my country but not this city particularly.

Or is a question in the body sufficient?

I have my settings set with "Show Read Posts" checked.

I created a community for acoustic guitars. I posted a couple of my songs on there.

If I go to this community in incognito mode, I can see my posts just fine.

When I'm logged in, I cannot see my own posts anywhere on this community.

Is this a bug? Or is there something I'm missing here?

Or do i have to use my browser?

Hi All, What app are you using to browse Lemmy from mobile and why? It's my first day

I am exploring Lemmy right now and what I see is very worrying to me, but I also don't understand wth is going on with some instances here. I don't know if it's smart to post this, but here we go.

I am partial to Marxist and anarchist ideology, but lemmygrad looks completely unhinged to me. Is it a parody? Some content is fine and some of it is insane.

On the other hand, beehaw looked super inviting from the outside and I even applied to join them. Then, I looked closer and that instance's moderation looks totalitarian and rigid in the other way. (I understand why they blocked lemmygrad though...)

I'm seeing this impact other communities in different ways and there's some kind of witch hunt happening on both sides...

I want to interact with people that can respect each-other and that can hold open-minded discussions about any topics without devolving into some tribal war.

Edit: I realize my post is not a simple question... Let me clarify some thoughs:
-I do not mean beehaw is far-right. The just seem strict and that's their right.
-I worry profiles can "inherit" the bad reputation of instances they interacted with and get pre-emptively banned.
-People are used to reddit and tend to centralize. Is the "just switch community" really an option?
-English is far from my first language and I might've judged things too quickly/harshly so take my criticism with a grain of salt.

Wil it be possible to use the same client for Lemmy as for Mastodon? They speak the same protocol so it should not be extremely hard to port such client, right?

I'm on my main feed page, set to local. But it looks like this post is from beehaw.org. Is that expected?

You can include pictures if you'd like! What's currently in your purse, wallet, or other everyday-carry container?

lemmy.world seems to be unique in that it's allowing post pop-in. Another lemmy instance I checked doesn't have this, so how can I prevent it? It's literally making the site unusable for me...

Now that the two day shutting down of many thousands of subreddits is over, what is happening now? How many are remaining closed? Are others just going back to normal? What is the prospects of any significant change happening now?

I've set my pihole to reject reddit.com and I'm committed to using Lemmy, but I do miss the old Reddit.

I've been going to different servers and finding communities to subscribe to. But that's quite slow if I'm looking for something specific and don't know what server it's on. Also quite a few duplicates.

I like the auto-bumping when I am using the "hot" sorting option, provided the bumps are for posts that are actually hot. I have noticed that the sort appears to be point-in-time and any new post is bumping.

I cannot figure out how to prevent this from happening. If I view "top day" I initially see all the top posts of the day, but then still see new posts bumping my feed.
