Jerboa for Android, mlem for ios

[–] Neb@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Thanks!

Looks like for iOS this is still in beta, so you will need to install "testflight" from the appstore (allows to install beta apps) and then go to https://testflight.apple.com/join/xQfmkJhc on your iphone/ipads browser and accept the invite link. Then you can install mlem, start it and log in (dont forget to type in the address of your instance at the top)

Oooh, thanks for sharing that info for others!

Typing this from mlem and the experience is incredible and very Apollo-like. And this is a pre-release version -- great work by the dev.

I’m using mlem and it mostly works fine, though it is pretty early access still and has its quirks

This echoes my Jerboa experience.

These are still early days.

There's also memmy for ios now (beta, in test flight)

[–] asqapro@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Just installed it, thanks for the recommendation. I like its interface so far, I might use this instead of Mlem.

There's Jerboa, which is pretty good. I'm still getting used to it's functionality.

I haven't figured out how to subscribe to new communities on Jerboa. I keep having to go back into the web browser to do it.

If you are on this post : click on the name of the community at the top (above the post title). Then the community opens and you can click "subscribe". In some communities you need to be approved, then you see "pending".

[–] Thebazilly@pathfinder.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right, sorry, I was misremembering my issue. There's no search bar on Jerboa, so I can't find new communities through the app unless they happen to pop up on All.

[–] emberwit@feddit.de 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The second icon in the bottom navigation bar of the main view gets you to the list of your subscribed communities. In the searchbar at the top you can search for other communities over all instances.

[–] Thebazilly@pathfinder.social 2 points 1 year ago

Ah, thanks! I thought that would just search my subscribed communities!

You didn't specify whether you use an iPhone or Android. Android phones have Jerboa for Lemmy. Mlem is being developed for iOS, but is still in the early stages.

[–] Ace_Addams@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Jerboa seems alright, been using it myself.

Memmy feels like it could be a spiritual successor to Apollo.

The only things I'm really missing right now is the compact post size and tap to collapse.

Hopefully we get that in time.

I’m pretty new to this corner of the world so if this is a reused joke then whatever. But I thought this was fucking hilarious.
