hanging in there.

got to start my 2025 planner (wonderland222) this week since it starts in december 2024 and sunday is december 1st. 😊

headed to my partner's parents' new house for the holiday. just two nights, and then we'll come back and do a friend hang with some folks in town.

the instructor for my rally obedience class said i could bring loki (oldest, aussie) to class next week so i could video his final rally novice submission he needs for his title. it will also be echo's third (and final) rally novice course! she was the only dog in class last night, so we got to do more off leash work and play between running the course, which she seemed to very much enjoy. i need to read up on the rules for AKC's fetch titles, because i'm pretty sure she could get 'em with a bit more practice.

thanks! i have a feeling she'll get at least a passing score (85), and she's likely to get above 90. if anything, there's probably some tight leash instances (handler error) which might dock us a few points.

we had a bit of trouble last night at class (another dog had peed in the building earlier / she wasn't used to the videographer moving). we managed to work through it with a bit of training and get another great submission ready for scoring. echo is an absolute delight to work with!

was walking a client's dog and was attacked by an off-leash dog yesterday. fuckin' sucked. everybody is ok (i think? i didn't stick around), but the other owner was very entitled and seemed to think their dog didn't need to be on a leash??? even after it attacked us??? the client's dog (a very large german shepherd) reacted appropriately to defend himself (and probably me) from any damage. he disengaged as soon as the owner finally pulled her (collarless!!!???) dog away. i called animal control after because this is an affluent neighborhood, the owner was white, and i wanted it on record.

still struggling to cope with the election results.

got rid of a bunch of stuff via free stuff markets over the weekend. echo also came out to the second one to get pets from all the strangers, which she loves.

echo has her second rally video session tonight; fingers crossed for a good take so we can submit it for our second score. she got 97/100 on her first one, which is great! the three points off were all handler error.

the restaurant across the street had its last day yesterday after ~six months of being open. it wasn't that great. the place before—which was there for ~two years—was amazing. curious to see who will move in next. it's one of the few neighborhood locations for retail/restaurant, so it being vacant is disappointing.

gopro and a chest strap.

she's too tiny for the dog harness they make!

i told my partner that if he charged up the gopro, i'd make a video for him when i took the dog out to the local nature preserve. turns out it makes some nice crunch-crunch sounds.

i've been doing the audiobook thing a ton. it's the primary way i consume books these days.

got my early vote in on friday, since i suspected the lines were going to be long today.

today is my birthday. 🥳

sheepdog festival last weekend was great. echo got to hang out and get a billion pets from all kinds of people, which is her favorite thing! she also had her first hotel stay, which went really well. she only barked three times (at the shower).

last night, our first rally submission was recorded, which i sent in today for judging. pretty sure we'll get a passing score, easy peasy. i want to look into some more virtual titles we can do, since i get ring stress pretty bad. 😅

A vote for Stein is a vote for Trump unless you’re in a ranked-choice locale.

unless your in NC and voting for josh stein, who's actually pretty great.

ah, then maybe uncovering is so that i can pull them all out, hahaha.

a few clips from jean's treibball training session this afternoon. she was actively afraid of the ball a few days ago, so this is awesome progress!

white oak! (i.postimg.cc)

we had to cut down a maple in this spot last year, as it was in danger of collapsing on our house. i planted this three-foot-nothing white oak to take its place, and i'm excited to watch it grow! the soil is super rich and well-draining right here since we had the stump ground down and left all the mulch to decompose. basically black gold. bee heart eyes emoji

edit: seeing all those invasive privets in the background. bee sob emoji

i started this online scent work course about a week ago, and it has been a lot of fun! i'm used to more showy dog sports (agility, rally obedience, dock diving, etc), so finding something chill has been really eye-opening. you can see right around the 1:45 mark where she sniffs the other colander, realizes there's no scent, and immediately plops her nose into the correct one! i'm just so amused and delighted.

started a few days ago getting her acclimated while i walked beside the bike, and we took our first trip around the block today. she stood up a few times, but for the most part was comfortable lying down.

jean has earned 500 points in fast CAT since she started in february, so she got her DCAT title today (first was BCAT at 300 points). very proud of her! it has improved her recall and behavior around other dogs so much. 😊

we have a looong way to go, but i like to keep video records of even the not-so-good practice sessions. she's really disengaged with me for a big portion of this video (probably because it's our first time doing this outdoors). hoping to eventually get her into rally obedience. :)

i’m really vibing with this game. absurd, casual, sometimes disturbing fun. slapping and jumping are the only actions, and it’s very england.

echo loves the creek so much. definitely her most favorite activity. also my first time using sniffspot (private dog park; this one was about three acres and fully fenced in), and it felt like we weren't fenced in at all! there was a little walking trail and everything.
