What is something you could never get tired of eating? That one dish, meal, or snack that no matter the day, you know if you had just a piece that time would stand still while you enjoyed that food for just one moment?

Care to share the recipe if it's homemade?

Mine is bacon wrapped water chestnuts.

Take sliced bacon and wrap around whole, individual water chestnuts. Secure together with a toothpick. Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and place the wrapped water chestnuts on the foil. Once you've made enough, cover with a unhealthy sprinkle of brown sugar and soy sauce. The "sprinkle" should be enough so some sugar and soy sauce have powdered each wrapped snack.

Broil until bacon is cooked. Watch for fire while using broil. Let them cool until warm and enjoy!

I'm going to go with something perhaps a little weird. Udon noodles, soy sauce as well, some veggies. I probably have it 2-3 times a week. The salty flavor really makes me brain light up. And maybe even stranger, durian. Very weird fruit. You have to make yourself eat it until you can real find the extremely unique, sweet flavors.

+1 about the noodles, I can toss in some frozen veggies and spice it up choosing whatever sauce I'd like. Dinner is ready super fast! Added chilli garlic sauce last time, delicious.

have you ever had frozen durian? i've always wanted to try durian but i don't think i can get it fresh where i live. i assume it's not really the same but i wonder if it's worth a try

[–] GreenCrush@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Frozen is what I usually have. For beginners I always recommend frozen durian first, it stays solid and has an almost ice cream like quality to it's texture.

I absolutely love Udon. Hard to find udon noodles here where I live… I can make them but it’s a lot of effort. If it wasn’t so much effort I’d probably have it 2-3 times a week as well.

Pizza. I do take out. Mostly make my own. Been without an oven though. I just got an instant pot with air fryer, gonna try that soon and try it on the grill.

[–] Holdmydrpepper 1 points 1 year ago

You ever try the chef boyardee pizza dough? Those kits are cheap and easy.

[–] Holdmydrpepper 1 points 1 year ago

We got rid of our air fryer unfortunately. It took up too much space and we just didn't use it more than twice, maybe, in about 6 months. I do know people that swear by it though.

Mine would be Soon Veggie ramen noodles with tofu, dried seaweed, dried shiitake mushrooms, and sesame oil drizzled on top with a side of kimchi. All cooked in a tiny steel single serving bowl. I miss the days when my little sister and I would eat hot ramen outdoors during chilly nights.

Pasta with any sauce I can rustle up, or toasted Turkish bread with butter and Vegemite.

[–] Holdmydrpepper 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never tried vegemite. World market may sell some though. Any brand you might recommend?

[–] emergencylasagna 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

As far as I know the only real Vegemite in Australia is made by Bega Cheese Ltd. There are other yeast extract spreads on the market which are milder and might be suitable for people trying this type of product for the first time, like Three Threes Mighty Mite.

Poutine. Fries, gravy and cheese curds are three things I'll enjoy forever.

[–] OminousOrange@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

I'm a sucker for a good poutine. It takes some care to make a good one though. Nothing more disappointing than soggy fry soup.

[–] reverie 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Probably baked potatoes with cheese and onions. Also taco bell, I would probably go there several times a week if I could.

[–] Holdmydrpepper 3 points 1 year ago

There use to be a baked potato place down the street from us, but it got covid'd. I grill mine and smother with whatever I can find in the fridge.

I don't know what that is, but I'd try it!

[–] Saturdaycat@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago

It's 100% Sushi. I am a Japanese food fiend and I just cannot resist my raw fish. My favorite would have to be a chirashi bowl with a variety of sliced fish

I'm all about cake. If it is good enough, it doesn't need icing. 🤤

[–] Holdmydrpepper 2 points 1 year ago

I get into a tres leches craving mode occasionally. Super easy cake to make! I do homemade frosting too with heavy whipping cream and top it with fruit. Awful for you but it tastes so good.

Chicken fried steak and over easy eggs, hasbrowns and lots of gravy. Then I don't have to eat for the next couple of days lol

[–] Holdmydrpepper 1 points 1 year ago

A fellow person of vulture I see. I mix my over easy eggs into the hashbrowns. Add some hot sauce ...and now my mouth is watering

[–] Captain_Pieces 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Alot, but the first thing that comes to mind is pizza hut

[–] Holdmydrpepper 2 points 1 year ago

Agreed, you can't go wrong with a big greasy pizza.

[–] MR_GABARISE@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

There's something about the simplicity and ease of cooking a rare french cut steak generously smothered with Worcestershire sauce and the optional Montreal steak spice. It's so fast and tasty.

[–] mdwhite999@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For a snack/lunch/breakfast I love a peanut butter and Nutella (or fake version) toast sandwich. I eat it at least once on 99% of days.

[–] Holdmydrpepper 1 points 1 year ago

My kiddo loves Nutella on his waffles. I'm more of a butter and syrup kind of guy. Maybe it's generational?

[–] Zoop 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mac & cheese, tuna, and peas! It's quick, easy, comforting, and I never get tired of it.

[–] Holdmydrpepper 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Made like a casserole? Sounds awesome!

[–] Zoop 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, kinda! Like a stove top casserole, almost. I usually make the boxed mac & cheese according to the box's instructions, then when that's done, I mix in a drained can of peas and a drained can of tuna and make sure it's mixed well and is warm all the way through. Then I add salt and pepper to taste. I've also done it in a microwave safe casserole dish in the microwave when I don't feel up to babysitting something on the stove.

I bet it would be great as a more traditional casserole in a casserole dish in the oven, maybe with some potato chips crushed on top & baked until they get nice and crispy. Ooh, or maybe some tater tots? You've got me thinking!! :)

If it sounds good, you should definitely try it! & let me know how you like it, if ya want! :) It's easy peasy, hard to mess up, plenty of protein and pretty well balanced compared to a lot of quick, cheap, & easy meals and comfort foods, and it's pretty inexpensive. I'm very enthusiastic about it, lol! 😄

I love love love the minestrone recipe that my family has. I suppose it's a nontraditional one since it has beef in it haha but it's so good. The smell from it cooking all day is enough to drive you mad!

[–] Holdmydrpepper 1 points 1 year ago

Care to share? Soup would really hit the spot right now!

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Shepard's pie. Hot, thick, hearty... yummo!

[–] Holdmydrpepper 1 points 1 year ago

I remember my mother made that with leftover Thanksgiving turkey or a baked chicken? That sounds so good.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Bad but honest answer: Takis. I am an addict in remission. Have tried making my own even, no luck.

Better answer: fried egg on toast with loads of cracked pepper and Sriracha sauce.

[–] Holdmydrpepper 2 points 1 year ago

Yup my mouth watered. I don't like the blue takis for some reason. I cover the red ones with Valentina. Messy but good.

[–] ohokthatsgood 2 points 1 year ago

Growing up, my grandma used to just make me rice and pour some strained Greek yogurt (laban) on top. I still do that from time to time, brings back very fond memories.

[–] Wonsington@l.roofo.cc 1 points 1 year ago

At the moment it's "Gochujang pasta all'arabbiata". I found a gif recipe for this and just had to try it and it's so good, I've been eating it exclusively forever.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Toast with Peanut butter and on top of that Indo Mi (blue) goreng noodles

Its so good but dam its so high in calories.

Or weetbix with warm milk, some brown sugar and a dash of cream. Because thats what my mum made me for a treat when I was a kid.
