Because signing up is still a chore since you need to choose the right instance and hope they don't defederate from an instance you like content from. Instance? Defederate? Then you worry about whether an instance can handle more traffic from other instances before it gets too expensive to run. And what about when so many more instances come online? It seems like the amount of syncing is multiplicative, so we're not sure how bad it will get when you have a bunch more instances, because it's a problem Lemmy and Kbin haven't had yet.

There's a lot that's not ready, from signups bugs to quality of life problems (how many people are subscribed to a community/magazine? How do you find out? You go to each instance because each instance only tells you how many people from that instance are subscribed, not total). I want to believe this is going to take off, but it needs to get better before the average Joe will be able to easily use this.

That assumption is predicated on law enforcement being willing to publish statistics on their actions. You can't have this work without that. Considering how often SWAT teams are unnecessarily used and the military tactics they employ, the results will be unflattering to police departments.

Of course they don't want their time wasted, but they won't trade transparency and accountability for it.

I've also been curious about it. Enjoying Lemmy and Kbin, but wouldn't mind the ability to interact on Tildes, if somebody has an invite.

That's a known bug in Jerboa. It's already been reported and the dev acknowledged it.

The best way is to use relative links, such as !technology@beehaw.org

What I did there was simply [!technology@beehaw.org](/c/technology@beehaw.org). This link doesn't start with the protocol and site, but instead assumes the current site, and starts with /c/my_comunity@my_site.tld, meaning it will be routed to the same instance.

This will probably not work for those on Kbin, since their communities (magazines) don't start with /c/, but rather with /m/. If anyone knows a good way for this to work for both, I'd be glad to adopt that myself going forward.

100%. There are literally military weapons systems using an Xbox One controller. This article is garbage clickbait.

That's because they don't exist. It's only a concept rendering. This site spotlights design ideas and their creators, not actual products.

That sounds like an annoying bug. Hopefully since it's well understood what exactly flipped in the database and how to fix the problem once it happens, the code fix won't take long.

Channels and networks. It's been a long time since I've been on IRC. I was an admin on IRCHighway forever ago, but then I just had less and less time for IRC. It's funny because the thing that kept me interested wasn't chatting with anyone on the network about anything, but instead the meta of chatting ABOUT the network, its health, suffering DDoS attacks, learning about servers and getting into web development, and the friends I made along the way. It was a lot of fun, but work and school got in the way. I don't know if I'd go back to IRC or not, but maybe.

I'm sure DALnet and Efnet are still around, and probably still massive. I believe IRCHighway is still around. Maybe it's time to just search the channel list for any interesting ones.

Did they select a language? Mine did the same thing on various instances. I tried a few things at the same time, so I don't know what finally let me register, but I learned a few things in the process.

For example, the most likely explanation is that the username is already taken. The back end fails silently when that happens, and there's already a bug open in GitHub. I figured I'd try a shorter password and selecting a language, and that worked.

Hopefully that helps your friends.

I wonder if alcohol would have a similar effect, since it also dries stuff out.

I call bullshit. Are you forgetting that Perez is still #2 in the WDC? And can we agree that none of Max's teammates have been able to drive the car, likely because the fact that it rotates around the nose is harder to drive for most people?

Do I like where Checo has finished lately? No. Does he deserve the seat? Absolutely. Hell, he was within one point if Verstappen earlier this year. You MIGHT be blowing this out of proportion. The car is great, but Max is the one that can squeeze the most of out it, whether by design or circumstance. That doesn't make Perez any worse of a driver.

Look at Ricciardo coming from McLaren and jumping into the Red Bull sim. The team said his form was unrecognizable. Lando would probably be TERRIBLE in the Red Bull until he got used to it. Even then, it would likely still suit Max better, meaning Lando would look foolish driving it. They built that car around Max, and it has paid off, but it has also cost a few drivers their reputations, and in some cases their careers.
