EDIT: Just made some. Verdict? The bean brownies taste just like the real thing. Mouthfeel is good, too.

I've seen a few recipes for black bean brownies that people swear by, but also many complaints too. Have any of you tried these before? If not, would you?

I might try to make these

  1. because I love beans
  2. because my sister has a wheat allergy so I could make these for her

They're apparently pretty healthy as far as sweets go, too. My mind just struggles to process black beans in desserts.

Let me know if you bake some. 😮

This is the recipe I use. It strikes a nice balance between fudgy and cakey brownies. You can also swap the instant coffee for about a tablespoon of peanut butter powder (with or without cocoa) if you prefer. I like them both ways.

I've tried them and didn't care for them. They weren't offensive or anything but definitely had a beany earthiness to them that we didn't enjoy.

That looks quite interesting, I very rarely make any kind of sweets, but I might try this the next time I do. Thanks for sharing!

I don’t think I’ve done black bean brownies, but I’ve made garbanzo bean blondies and they were really good. I also sometimes get a chocolate black bean hummus from Target that is really good with graham crackers.
