What does your battlestation look like? PS4/5, XBox, PC or some oddball Chinese retro handheld?

Mainly on desktop, I use Debian 12, and it has an RX 6700 XT, i5 11400f, and 64GB ram. I have a Nintendo Switch I use sometimes, and I just finished a project I had for a weird gaming phone setup steam deck-ish thing for emulation with a used OnePlus 7 Pro I bought for cheap and a Gamesir X2 that I leave on it 24/7 with a custom OS

Windows PC. Why? Modding, first and foremost. Gaming without mods is like pizza without toppings—it'll do in a pinch, but it's nowhere near as good.

I've also, at various times, gamed on:

  • My phone
  • My Linux desktop
  • A Nintendo DS Lite
  • An SNES
  • A Nintendo Game Boy

But the vast majority of my gaming has long been on PC. I've been a PC gamer almost from the very beginning, thanks mostly to the fact that the first gaming-capable device I had consistent access to was my parents' 486 PC, and in all these years, this platform has never let me down.

What is your favorite game to mod? I'm a casual gamer and never got into modding at all. I know that Skyrim has an absurdly large mod ecosystem, but other than that what am I missing out on?

Steam Deck

My last consoles were the Xbox 360 & PS4, but haven't touched those in years, went all in on the PC rig

[–] NoxiousPluK@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 year ago

Almost entirely PC only. I have a bunch of retro consoles but rarely use them.

[–] Jomn@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

I used to game on my PC (which is a bit old now), but I now only use my Steam Deck.

[–] QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago

Mainly PC (running Pop OS) and Switch.

[–] joshuar9476 4 points 1 year ago

I have a PC, Switch, and my Android. I mostly use RetroArch and transfer saves between the PC and Android. I also play Fortnite, but only on the PC. I rarely use the switch.

[–] Rentlar 4 points 1 year ago

Steam Deck, Linux Desktop, Windows Laptop, sometimes on Nintendo Switch with friends.

[–] Raincloud 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The Switch and my Linux PC. And the Analogue Pocket, love that thing.

[–] chloyster 4 points 1 year ago

Aaaa. So jealous. I have an order out for the pocket that's supposed to be fulfilled sometime this year but no clue when it will actually come

[–] waver002@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nintendo Switch, Steam deck, New 3DS, Miyoo mini Plus, RG35XX

[–] Garrathian 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

PC, Xbox and Switch mostly. Tend to kind of rotate amongst them depending on what i'm playing and/or with whom im playing with.

After Tears of the Kingdom fever dies down I'd love to see Nintendo come out with an upgraded Switch. I want to see BOTW 3 glisten!

[–] crisisingot 4 points 1 year ago

These days I'm mostly playing on the switch. I also have a PC but it's more difficult to find time to play on it sometimes since I have to play it at my desk

[–] Senil888@pawb.social 4 points 1 year ago

For me it's mostly a mix of my Switch and my PC. My fiancé has an OG 3DS we occasionally play some stuff on, and I've been meaning to finish off Paper Mario: Color Splash on our Wii U.

Need to fix up my PC though, thing keeps crashing occasionally and has been for a long time now with no clear reason to why :/ think I've ruled it down to RAM or SSD.

[–] rodinj@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

PC and Switch, I do have an Xbox One (yes the old one) but it's collecting dust.

Mostly Steam Deck these days, though I keep a GPD Win 2 in my pocket most of the time for gaming on the go.

[–] ursabursa 4 points 1 year ago

Split between Switch, RG300 and my very outdated pc.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Primarily my gaming PC, but it's getting pretty old. AMD FX-8350, 16GB RAM, GeForce 1050Ti, lots of storage.

In the living room I have a Switch and Steam Deck, I play the Steam Deck more lately, mostly for co-op games like Stardew and Brawlhalla.

Oh and I still have my fat PS3 hooked up in the living room, played some Rock Band on it this weekend.

A laptop running Fedora Linux

[–] ForNoRaisin 4 points 1 year ago

Combination of PC and Steam Deck, depending on the game, as well as Retro Arch on my phone for the occasional Pokemon ROM hack during my lunch break

[–] ClaySpears@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I have a PC and a Nintendo Switch I swore I was gonna use when TOTK until giving myself a heaping backlog to get through on my pc before I start a new game anywhere- so the switch gathers dust still.

[–] mananevergone 3 points 1 year ago

Wii/GameCube for me (also PC just for Slippi)

[–] sgtnasty@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I was always a big Xbox gamer, but after I got an Xbox Series X and found that the games I play have almost no online users. So I got a PS5 and turned off my Xbox, its a whole level above Xbox.

I do some gaming on Linux (Stellaris, Crusader Kings, Endless Space 2) for strategy games.

[–] hybridhavoc 3 points 1 year ago
  • Xbox Series X
  • PC
  • Meta Quest 2
[–] YuzuDrink 3 points 1 year ago

I go back and forth between Steam (PC or Steam Deck) and my Switch, depending on what I'm playing. I do have a PS5 which I'll use mostly for Sony exclusives... like FF16 is going to be a PS5 play for me.

[–] Reddit_Refugee2023 3 points 1 year ago

A PC I just built this year, I have probably used it more to steam thing then play honestly. I don't have too much time to play things with kids.

[–] DidacticDumbass@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago

Some Lenovo desktop I got on sale at Costco in December. Was waffling between AMD and Intel (GPU is Nvidia 3060), went with Intel because all my research indicated it was better performing at the price than Ryzen, but I have no idea if my use case makes a difference. I am still using a 27'' 1080p monitor I got probably 10 years ago.

Immediately put Linux on it without ever booting into Windows. I tried to get Fedora and Pop OS working, but for some strange reason it did not work. Ended up going with MX Linux, which I love.

[–] Cowabunghole@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I built my first ever gaming pc this year so I've been trying to get through an infinite backlog of pc games that I've missed over the years. But as of right now all my focus is going towards TOTK on Switch

[–] Boozilla 3 points 1 year ago

A custom PC that runs modern games on good settings but is also designed to run quietly. Fan noise bugs me.

I wish I could say that I built it myself (I used to build my own systems, years ago). But instead I paid way too much for it. I'm happy with it, but yeah...build your own if you have the time and energy!

[–] bulbatea@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

My gaming desktop PC is my primary gaming rig. I run linux on there and its honestly been great, I've been really happy with my 7900XTX and it plays all games I want at 4K. My steam deck is a close second for portable/sofa gaming.

[–] Kamirose 3 points 1 year ago

Mostly PC, but I recently pulled my Switch out again and have been playing on that lately.

[–] 1993_toyota_camry 3 points 1 year ago

In order of frequency: Steam Deck, Switch, PC (linux)

Xbox One used to get some use, but not much anymore. Now and then I'll pull out the NES, Genesis or Intellivision for some retro gaming.

[–] HarvesterOfEyes@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

PC most of the time. Currently running Arch Linux and loving it. I still have a Windows 10 partition just to run BlazBlue: Centralfiction because it doesn't recognize a 2nd controller so I can't play local multiplayer. Aside from that, couldn't be more happy with Linux.

[–] computerfan0 3 points 1 year ago

I mostly use my Linux Mint PC and the family Nintendo Switch. I also have a PS5 and a 3DS which get occasional use.

[–] russjr08@outpost.zeuslink.net 3 points 1 year ago

I mainly play on my desktop PC, which dual boots Windows and Arch (obligatory I use Arch BTW) though I do have an Xbox One that I used to use before I got into PC gaming.

I also have a Nintendo Switch, which I primarily picked up because I tend to have a lot of hospital stays and it makes things a bit easier during those trips.

Finally, I also have an older MacBook Pro that runs Fedora on it, which I don't use too much (and certainly not for gaming) but it's there in case I need it!

[–] gohomology 3 points 1 year ago

I play mostly on my Switch, because my PC (laptop running Ubuntu, though I plan to switch to Arch when I find the time) isn't very strong.

Though, I do also play go on my PC, and rarely other games.

[–] AnEilifintChorcra@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Just PC, emulation all the way up to PS3 and Switch is so good, I don't really see a need for any console for me since I have so many games that I've never had the opportunity to play when I was younger.
