This could be a great time to make a Captain America movie that captures the current political moment and actually says something. Redskull running for president and taking over the country or something, while Cap has to fight against an utterly feckless Iron Man capitulating to corporatocracy and punch a bunch of Nazis in cheap Temu suits. But that would require a spine.

That's all marvel can produce these days
I'm not surprised, this whole thing has reeked of corporate committee writing. Pandering to the black viewer rather than writing for them. Showing them "look at how much Disney cares" vs... just writing a good damn movie.
Having a black captain America is itself a statement, but I don't trust that Disney could just let it go and write a cool super hero movie. They'd have to make sure everything in the movie is about that, continually call attention to it, all while not going too far, we cant even remotely come close to offending anyone, that might lower sales.
We need executives and marketing out of the writers rooms. Let writers tell their stories without worrying about numbers for some things. This movie might have been good then. I think "woke" should be rethought from "featuring people of other races/lgbtqia" to instead be pointed at corporate america with their lame pandering to us. It's demeaning to everyone. If you want a black lead, just ffs have a black lead, but stop treating us like children and calling attention to it. Stop back patting and having endless meetings on how it will be portrayed in middle America. Just the committees and just freaking do it

Yeah I dislike the misuse of "woke" it's been hijacked. There's a lot of corporate pandering that no one wants.
I had a bit of hope for the new Captain America after Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but it seems I was wrong.
I think if we re-labeled woke to mean "fake pandering" a lot of people would actually agree. I think there are a lot of assholes on the right, don't get me wrong, however I think a good majority of them are also just simply tired of the obviously fake pandering like we are. I think of DA:Veilguard, which was just so obviously pandering that even as someone who considers myself an ally, I was annoyed as hell by it. It was just so fake.
My hopes for Falcon and the Wnter Soldier were dashed during the last episode of that series where, instead of addressing anything the series had been building up to at that point, Captain bootlicker kowtows to the evil Senators that caused the problem in the first place and asks them to please do better.
Yeah ... that speech felt so awkward and forced didn't it? I can't remember but he like walks away as if that conversation made a difference ...?
critical consensus across the board for this one is quite sour: currently sitting at a 42 on Metacritic and even the best reviews only have it in the 70s
Propaganda machine be propaganda machining.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh dear, I would love to say I'm shocked but no.
You don’t say…
