Be left-handed and attempting to write on a whiteboard

"This is fine"

Left-handed here. Can confirm. And writing on paper with a pencil is not much better, either.

Your handwriting is gorgeous. I don't care if I can read it or not.

Oh man,, I dunno if I can remember , I use a lot of Noodler's waterproof / partially waterproof inks , top looks like golden brown and bottom looks like 41 brown , but it may also be me trying to mix up my own version of golden brown (41 chocolate brown with some non waterproof yellow?) Edit - bottom may be golden brown but the flow increased a lot so looks way darker

This is the real reason why humanity invented keyboard.

[–] Randall_Potato@lemmy.one 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

See, I was thinking the other way around. I was thinking the prevalence of keyboards largely contributed to the decline in penmanship, rather than providing a way to skirt it.

My middle-school-aged son's handwriting is hilariously atrocious. Kid is a straight-A student but writes about as well as my daughter, and she's 8. Every time he has to write something we get a good laugh out of it. Same with other kids his age. His yearbook looks like it was signed by a class of kindergarteners. I figure it's just because they simply don't write--ever. Everything they do is on a laptop.

Will be interesting to see how much worse handwriting can get before we just say "fuck it". Lol

Yeah, you're right. Most people probably lack practice and that is why their handwriting isn't clean. I'm still very happy I don't have to write official documents by hand.

Interestingly enough, everybody at university nowadays takes notes with their tablet, so kind of returning to handwriting. Why? Laptops are great for texts and all, but ever tried to write down math or draw a quick graph while your professor's hand is moving at the speed of light? The freedom of sketching whatever Greek letter your lecturer is making up is not replaceable by a keyboard. I don't care whether on paper or touchscreen, but I don't think we should or could abandon handwriting.
