What's the point of capitalizing the first word of a sentence? Why are English letters pronounced differently in the same arrangements depending on the word? The language just is like that, it basically evolved over centuries to end up in this form.

Languages weren't designed to work in a certain way, there wasn't somebody smart saying they should work like X because Y, it's just slow changes to how many people speak.

I like Valve, but I will point out what's been said before - Valve has a stake in making Linux gaming better, since it enables the Steam Deck to exist and prosper. They could've chosen other options that don't help the community, but they didn't choose this entirely selflessly, since they reap the benefits from not just their own work, but also that of the open source developers.

JSX is JavaScript, but you can also just put HTML in it (with bonus syntax for embedding more JS expressions inside) and it can get transpiled into function calls, which means it'll result in an object structure representing the HTML you wrote. It's used so that you can write a component as a function that returns HTML with properties already computed in and any special properties, like event listeners, passed as function references contained in the structure.

It's not like Bethesda called their games "Fantasy" - "Civilization" is such a generic name that I respect putting the author's name before it to avoid any confusion.

I also recommend rEFInd for the bootloader if you don't want to set anything up (and risk messing up). You don't need to configure your boot entries, it scans for boot options and shows them with a graphical interface, so your Linux and Windows should just show up.

As a non-german-speaker, I feel like I get plenty of good laughs out of ich_iel. I only feel like I'm missing out on some of the best posts.

I think an issue is, this sets up your computer to have a way to bypass putting your password in on boot. If you don't care about security too much and don't have things like secure boot and encryption, then that's bypassable anyways... But otherwise, I'd be concerned about introducing systems that specifically bypass security.

literally completely accurate

I'm consistently saddened by the changing state of the English language 😔

Yeah, obs also has similar features - not sure if performance would actually differ, assuming it uses hardware acceleration for the encoding. That said, I suspect this is specifically directed at steam deck, Valve probably wants a built-in, easy to use version there.

Those are fair points, I actually bought the switch pretty early on after seeing praise for Odyssey and BotW. I play on PC otherwise, but I enjoyed the experience, playing docked with joycons with motion controls.

I'm not personally frustrated, while the games definitely seem overpriced, I always felt like Nintendo is just sitting in their niche doing their thing, not trying to one-up others and instead providing various gimmicks with their devices. They're selling consoles and games for a certain price, and it feels like if you think the deal is bad or unfair, you can just pass on it.

I don't think I really have a point here, just saying my thoughts. I have my issues with Nintendo, but I do feel like their consoles and games provide value that is hard to get elsewhere.

I do get the impression that Nintendo has consistently had worse hardware for a long time... And I appreciate it. Instead of cranking up the hardware, they make games that are fun and run on weaker hardware, often with neat stylization.

Maybe not a rite of passage, but a good learning experience if you want to know what goes into your system! I'd recommend trying it to those who want to get more out of their system and know what they're using... Though I also wouldn't recommend Arch to people who don't want that.
