MODERATORS

I know this probably should go to r/nosurf alternative on Lemmy, but I can't find one and I'm not interested in moderating one, so I'm posting here.

As the title suggests, a few days ago I deleted Youtube. Actually it's the surperior version of Youtube called Revanced Extended, but it doesn't really matter.

The choice for me was quick and easy, since Revanced was suffering some kind of buffering issue, which prevent it from playing the video about a minute in or so, so deleting it don't immediately affect my life yet.

Now, whenever I want to use Youtube, I have to use either the web desktop version on my computer (which has a ridiculous amount of load time), or I have to use the mobile web version (which lacks a lot of features and doesn't even save your video progress).

Because the web versions are so much more janky, I would theoretically have less and less tendency to just open Youtube out of boredom, thus reduce the amount of hour I use Youtube.

So far, that has not been the truth yet. I'm still using a pretty absurd amount of hour on Youtube (that has now transformed into Firefox), but with self-discipline and work, I hope this method would work in a short amount of time.

This is the same method that I have used to reduce my Discord usage, and it worked: Now, whenever I want to use Discord, I would just open up the native app on my laptop instead of using my phone, and only doing so if my laptop is not there.

Damn, proud of you!

I am currently using ReVanced. If YouTube continues trying to cut off users with addblock on and get to ReVanced I might actually be happy just because it would cure my addiction.

I'm glad about what happened with reddit, I stopped that right away and even if I'm using Lemmy I spend less time on here than I ever spend on reddit!

I have been doing what you do for a long time. It works well for me to provide a sort of air gap to their addictive design intent.

or I have to use the mobile web version (which lacks a lot of features and doesn't even save your video progress).

Please don't do that to yourself anymore

This is very cool, well done!!

PS: Does anybody know if there is a r/nosurf alternative on Lemmy? I've only found a /digitalminimalism and /dumbphones.

The perfect trinity needs to exist and unite! :-D
