Yeah. Beehaw isn't on version 0.18 and Jerboa isn't compatible with anything below that version, so I figured that's why I went from no crashes to a bunch of 'em. I switched to Liftoff for now.

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Beehaw is probably waiting for the next release to update.

[–] fell@ma.fellr.net 3 points 1 year ago

@Coeus @Lycan I also just noticed that images from federated (non Lemmy) comments are ignored. This is probably also related to the older version.

[–] FelipeFelop 3 points 1 year ago

I understood that 0.18 was a release candidate and not production ready. There seem to be a few killer issues awaiting 0.18.1

[–] marx2k 2 points 1 year ago

..now looking into liftoff

Thanks! Also, didn't know it was a Java app. Now I might get to contribute if I ever get a minute from not working my 9 to 5....6...11...3AM...

Well, there goes my enthusiasm

Kotlin is definitely worth learning as a Java dev. It's a wonderful language and plays nice with prior Java knowledge.

[–] Velonie 3 points 1 year ago

It's written in Kotlin, not Java fyi

Yes, a LOT.

[–] giloronfoo 7 points 1 year ago

I had a couple crashes.

It might have something to do with the update haveing changes that require Lemmy 0.18 and Beehaw is still running 0.17.4.

I assume they're waiting for the 0.18.1 version that restores support for captchas.

[–] Banzai51@midwest.social 6 points 1 year ago

My problem with the app is that it won't respect my default view (subscribed, new). But neither will Connect.

Growing pains.

[–] maggio@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What version are you currently using?

I think the app is getting better with every update, and the latest version 0.0.35 is quite good.

Remember that the app is still in an development stage.

[–] marx2k 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm on 0.0.35. Just noticed this last night and this morning.

I get that it's in development and that's fine. I was just wondering if it was me or them ;)

[–] maggio@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

Hmmm, then I don't know, it shouldn't be crashing though. Strange.

I'm currently using GrapheneOS on a Pixel 6

[–] Solemn@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

It crashed when I first tried to open this post lol.

Overall, it currently crashes annoyingly often, but not enough to make me reluctant to use it.

[–] Lowbird 3 points 1 year ago

Oh yeah it crashes and bugs more often than it doesn't.

[–] lemann@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There were tons of crashing complaints so I stayed on the previous Jerboa version until my instance upgraded to 18.0.

Haven't had any crashes since updating but the app is starting to feel less polished, doing a lot of reloading and no longer returning to the last position in a thread when pressing back... will likely jump ship when some more 3rd party apps finish baking.

[–] marx2k 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah each time I respond it either crashes or brings me to the top of the thread

Other related posts:

My experience is that 0.0.35 crashes a lot, but looks a lot more finished. Also the default view settings seem ignored but I can manually to whatever I want. I have always found posting unreliable on both the old and new apps. I use the PWA (Progressive Web App) for posting or just do it on my workstation. Hoping 0.0.35+ stabilize either by new releases OR Beehaw updates will fix some of the issues. Some say that 0.0.35+ just does not work on Beehaw until they migrate to a new server version (probably next week or so), but I do not have that issue.

[–] Mrpacs@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

I can't find the login on the app, lol. Uninstalled

[–] Nerd02@forum.basedcount.com 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Same, since I updated my instance to 0.18 Jerboa doesn't work and instantly crashes.

[–] ryanlovescooljeans 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's weird. Because when I open the app, Jerboa says that my instance is on version 0.174 (or maybe 0.17.4) and that I need to contact my admin to upgrade to 0.18. I've been getting this message very time I log in for the last few days.

Sounds like you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Sometimes it closes and has the default view bug, but in general it goes well, we are talking about an alpha, you have to be patient

[–] x2XS2L0U@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

I installed todays update and it got better. It happens quite regularly though

[–] Zer0Rank@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

Nope, not just you. Downloaded it and tried to start it, but kept crashing on me immediately every time. Switched to another app.

[–] Ecosphere5019@geddit.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep. Mine crashes on every upvote.

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Initially, Jerboa was crashing for me whenever I clicked on any link. Turned out it was because I had disabled the default Chrome browser in Android (I default to use Mull, a Firefox fork) and it seems to be a dependency because the second I re-enabled it, Jerboa stopped crashing. So that's something to check - there must be a dependency somewhere.

[–] half_fiction@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Mine won't change sort views at all, just stuck on all: most comments. Haven't tried interacting with it otherwise because I can't get past the same posts I've seen a million times.

[–] isosphere 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

it crashed the first time I tried to reply to this post

[–] marx2k 3 points 1 year ago

Its crashing half the time I'm trying to reply

[–] CookieJarObserver@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

Got better with today's update but it crasheds when down voting stuff lol

[–] livingcoder@lemmy.austinwadeheller.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I haven't experienced any crashes. I'm just getting annoyed with it resetting the view when I rotate my phone by accident. It takes me back to Local and changes my filter back to default. Painful.

I also haven't experienced any crashes, but that's not to say it doesn't crash after a few seconds. On my tablet, I can only access Local. No matter what I do, selecting my subscriptions just reloads Local. Then I quit the app before it has a chance to crash. You're lucky you can see your subscriptions at all.

[–] ThrowawayPermanente@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

2 seconds after launch, every time

[–] vaguerant@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Looks more like 17 minutes after launch.

[–] NoraReed 1 points 1 year ago
[–] Re4mstr@lemmy.re4mstr.com 1 points 1 year ago

No crashes yet...

Every time, 2 seconds after launch

[–] Coeus@coeus.sbs 1 points 1 year ago

I'm on 0.0.35 and no crashes. The sorting is broken on 0.0.36

[–] HughJanus@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago

I have moved to wefwef.app

Kinda weird (and inconvenient) having an iOS UI on Android but it's definitely the best I've seen by a longshot.
