Very happy, but seeing a www.reddit.com link instead of a old.reddit.com or teddit.net link makes me mildly irritated, since I know clicking that on mobile would send me to the crappy reddit mobile site.

So for those people https://teddit.net/r/SyncforLemmy/comments/14ee1ul/sync_for_lemmy_is_happening/

He's the first 3PA dev of a big reddit client to do this. Curious to to see now if other devs will follow or if they will watch the sync dev and see how it goes.

Slide for Reddit dev announced yesterday he’s ceasing development on his Reddit app and releasing a lemmy app

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Ccrama did? Holy shit, that would be awesome. Do you have any links? I currently use slide for reddit!

[–] variants_of_concern@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh man that would be great slide is what was using as well before the move

Should be near the bottom. Looks like the original dev, ccrama, is still afk. But his code is all open source. So some new guy is going through some of the disorganized code and resurrecting it!

Afaik it isn't ccrama, it's someone using the code.

Shit... he stopped development on Slide a long time ago. I used it for years and ended up going back to Sync because it was basically abandoned.

Great to hear! Sync was my first third party Reddit app. I eventually switched to Boost (IIRC, Sync was having some problems with image uploads and so I moved clients), but Sync was still a great Reddit app.

Even though I'm liking Jerboa, I can't wait to see what the "third party Reddit developers" can do. The more Lemmy apps, the better!

Check out this table of apps being developed https://beehaw.org/post/697419

late commenting on this but finally, i'm so excited! sync is the only thing i'm still grieving from reddit, jerboa is nice & the devs have done a great job so far, but a bit too early stage for me atm

Lemmy.world: https://lemmy.world/c/syncforlemmy

This might allow you to see it if you are viewing from a defederated instance?

I hope we will see a new RIF (Reddit is Fun) for either Lemmy or Kbin

[–] Mnmalst@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The RIF dev is making an app for tildes.net

[–] McBinary@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Weird that the dev would pick the platform with the least engagement to build an app for.

[–] Mnmalst@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

It's not wired at all. I am active on both and the culture on both sites is completely different, so I totally understand when people decide that one culture fits them better.

[–] EthicalAI@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Is there anything special or unique about tildes.net?

[–] aeternum@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago (7 children)

I've got an account on tildes. If anyone wants an invite, let me know.

[–] tinasays@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’d be interested in an invite if you have more!

[–] hitechlowlife@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd love to get an invite if you still have one

[–] communication 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'd love an invite if you still have any!

[–] aeternum@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I can't send you a message for some reason. I think it might be because you're on a different instance.

[–] communication 1 points 1 year ago

No problem, good to know. Thanks for trying!

[–] Nero@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Consider me in if you can toss an invite my way.

[–] TheJesusFish@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hit me with an invite, please!

[–] aeternum@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Can't. you're on a different instance. can't send messages to other instances, it seems

It's different. From a software standpoint much more mature since it's older and doesn't have to manage the technical depth that comes with the fediverse, since it's not a part of that.
The culture is also different. Not sure how to describe it but if I had to I would also call it "more mature". Deeper conversations and the different structure of the sites makes it different. There are also no moderators or freely created "magazines" (for now).
Have a look at it and feel free to message me if you are interested in creating an account.

If you have an invite I would like one to test it out!

There are many open source alternatives being built. We'll see how things shake out: https://beehaw.org/post/697419
