Yeah, I'm a little scared about that as well. However, the big companies need customers. In order to have customers and being able to project revenue and new areas of revenue, they need stability and that means (to some extent) people that have their base needs met.
Or maybe that's too optimistic..
That assumes corporations can think further than the next quarter, which they're actively incentivized to not do. Stockholders don't care about long-term viability because they can always cash out.
