Update: I reset the bios and that fixed the issue.

This may work in 99% of the cases, but not in my situation since I've tried 5 distros and none of them boot. I'm pretty sure there are deeper issues, but they are clearly beyond my level of knowledge.

I have tried to boot from 3 distros and none of them worked, but a windows USB worked perfectly. I'm thinking that it has to do with the bios. No they are not on the same drive.

Yes, I'm thinking that the bios got corrupted somehow and from what I can tell, it doesn't matter what linux kernel version I try to run. There is no SGX setting in the bios. I will try to update the bios tomorrow (I already tried once and that hung as well) and will update the thread then. Luckily windows still works.

It wasn't the windows update. It happened after a Linux update.

When I restart the computer, the screen remains dark so I have to shut it down. When I select my distro, the screen hangs on that. When I boot from any live USB I get the error

So I got this weird bug – I updated my Pop_OS install and now Linux doesn't boot anymore. I should probably boot from USB and fix this. I could figure it out on my own, but maybe it will be good knowledge for people searching on engines so any advice is welcome. Windows still boots properly. Let's give people some alternatives to reddit :)

How do I properly secure NextCloud server connected to the open internet? (lemmy.zip)
 

I have had a NextCloud up & running for a few weeks thus far and haven't had any problems. The reason I can't just connect to it via vpn is that I want to share links of files with other people. I always keep the system up to date and I think I configured nginx correctly. I have blocked all requests to ports other than 80 and 443, but the firewall is still not the best right now: someone can send many requests in a short timeframe. I have also used tools like pentest-tools.com and some others, but those say that there are no major vulnerabilities. I also keep track of logs with a tool called logwatch. Any tips and tricks or resources (articles, videos, etc) would be much appreciated. Or maybe you want to know more about my setup. I know that NextCloud can be really secure if everything is done right!

I have experienced phantom touches sometimes while charging my phone, but that was due to a faulty cable.

So I know that there is Lemmy redirect and linksheet with which you could technically open Lemmy links in your preferred app, but there has got to be a better way. This should definitely be a feature that gets added since the possibility of your actually finding a post from your own instance on Google(or duckduckgo) is very slim. I can't imagine Lemmy gaining much of a following before flaws like this are ironed out.

Anybody have any experience with mobilecoin? What is the use case for it? Seems kind of pointless and a lot more tedious than just a bank transfer. Why does signal include crypto nonsense in their app (I like crypto, but just can't see any reason why it should be integrated in the app). I'm sad that signal does not have support for 3rd party open source clients that could remove such features. Why not add support for monero instead?
