Cheers! Thanks for the 'Lazy DM's Guide' books. They have been a gamechanger for my prep.

...thanks for pointing me to this server today, mike!..i must confess a twinge of r/dndnext withdrawal over the past couple of weeks...

Well, damn. Big fan, Sly. Thanks for all the tips!

I was a bit bummed to see that Mike didn't mention any of the Fediverse options but honestly Lemmy and kbin are still cooking as technologies so I don't exactly fault him. I was surprised to hear him skeptical of Patreon—the same incentives are there, surely, but I wasn't aware of any recent actions they had taken.

Replacing Discord will definitely be painful if/when it comes.

I really didn’t know anything about Lemmmy. Things are moving fast. I did mention Mastodon, blogs, podcasts, and rss feeds.

Senpai noticed us!

Thanks for checking our small community out. For what its worth, this is set up by a number of the mods from several different large subreddits dedicated to ttrpgs, trying to gain traction for something away from reddit.

Ah that's fair. I mean, at the time you recorded the video I couldn't have named any kbin or Lemmy groups that were even rpg focused (I didn't know any either) so it would have been by far the most embryonic of the options you listed. We're watching the plane get built mid-flight! Credit to the other shout outs you gave, though; I did notice them at the time and they do all present legit alternatives for controlling your life on the internet.

One thing that wasn't touched on much is how many creators I've found due to the dozen or so d&d subreddits I subscribed to. I found a dozen map makers, half a dozen homebrew item creators and adventure creators each that I love and use regularly. Many I purchase from or support. That's my primary source for finding new creators that I use to enhance my digital games. Hell I never would have heard of Sly Flourish without them. It's what I'm going to miss from Reddit.

Another is that it's where I get my d&d news. I wouldn't have been anywhere near as informed, nor as quickly, about the OGL fiasco without dndnext, dndnemes, onednd, etc.

Lastly, I disagree that I could "leave" the non DM communities there. I get that's the best place for Sly to advertise so he engages with it the most. But the general discussion and meme subs were where I found a lot of rules discussion, balance discussion, etc.

Also discord sucks for most of this. It's a chatroom, not a forum. Enworld is great and had great info but I really prefer the tiered discussion threads better than time based.
