last night for example, i was looking at the joinlemmy page, just lemmy.world went from like 400 to 1.3k in a night! hope it keeps up

Where do you see this figure? The instance list still says 1.3k.

In addition, https://the-federation.info/platform/73 lists over 84k as the total number of users on the entire Lemmy network!

Well you can join any instance and still interact with the others. I'm on lemmy.ca and so far it's been stable. Think of it more like email than Reddit. Just because your on Gmail doesn't mean you can't email yahoo.
