RULES

While this is s community focused on Android, some of us have devices from the Android, Apple, Windows and Linux worlds, etc. We may prefer Android, but overzealous and obsessive adherence to Android as some sort of infallible platform won't be tolerated long here.

That said, being critical of brands is fine. Android is frustrating in some ways, just like iOS and so forth. Let's be upfront about that.

Be thoughtful and helpful, even with 'stupid' questions. Otherwise, as ya mama said, say nothing at all. The world won't be made better or worse by snarky dudes schooling naive newcomers on Lemmy.

MODERATORS

So, I thought I'd kick things off here with some community building.

Quote this post with answers to the below!

What phone are you using?

Are you happy with it? What are its best and worst qualities?

Which phones have you had previously? Which were the best and worst of the lot?

How often do you upgrade to a new phone?

What other Android ecosystem devices do you have? Watches, headphones/earbuds, etc.

Do you also use any Apple products, or are you Android all the way? (And/or Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, etc.)

Samsung S20 FE. Does everything I need, have owned it for two years and fully expect it to last at least two more. I have the less efficient Exynos model, but it's more than enough for me. I partly chose it because it was among the most accessible options with a 120Hz display back then and I don't regret it. Samsung software can be annoying, but I'm used to it.

I hear people recommend Pixels a lot, and I think I'd have one if they sold them where I live.

I've only had a handful of phones ever, I usually only switch when it becomes unusably slow, or dies, or gets stolen.

I also have an iPhone XS that I like a lot. I think it was pretty unpopular when it came out because of the price and for being too similar to the X, but I bought mine when it was already a few years old. Maining more than one device means I'm constantly missing something about the other platform, it helps keeping an open mind.
