For the love of football (or maybe because I created a community about an experimental league during the offseason), this community is moving!

Our new home is !ufl@fanaticus.social where we welcome our new USFL brethren.

The XFL-USFL merger was announced December 31, with the new name (United Football League) and markets retained announced January 1:

USFL Conference

  • Birmingham Stallions
  • Houston Roughnecks
  • Memphis Showboats
  • Michigan Panthers

XFL Conference

  • Arlington Renegades
  • DC Defenders
  • San Antonio Brahmas
  • St Louis Battlehawks

Seems like Fox Sports and ESPN are going to share it, which basically makes it the 2020 iteration of the XFL...

Also, not sure what to do with this community now. I'm leaning towards locking it and starting up a new UFL one before the season kicks off, although repurposing this as the UFL community is an option (I think the XFL URL is fixed, though).

Article is sparse on any details, but seems imminent pending regulatory approval (which I assume will be granted as with the NFL-AFL merger).

Curious to see what other details come out this week (e.g. which league name would be retained going forward, will the broadcast rights be combined or will the USFL's deal with NBC collapse).

According to Mike Mitchell at XFL News Hub and corroborated by Dennis Dodd at CBS.

We all knew a relocation is badly needed, but I'm surprised Gerry Cardinale seems to be willing to rectify his misstep in pushing for a Vegas team.

From the article:

Forty-one former XFL standouts saw action during NFL Preseason Week 2. For all 64 players, the pressure increases. There’s one week left before final roster announcements on August 29.

In the last week we had 10 signings with RB Jacques Patick, Edge Delontae Scott, DL Matthew Gotel, QB Jordan Ta’amu, DL Tomasi Laulile, T Garrett McGhin, RB Brian Hill, CB Elijah Hamilton, WR Juwan Green, TE Sal Cannella, and WR Josh Hammond all getting opportunities.

We also had two players lose their chance, with RB John Lovett and WR Hakeem Butler both getting cut by the Steelers.

It was a monumental weekend in the XFL, for multiple reasons. We watched our XFL >> NFL players suit up during NFL Preseason Week 1, where 33 of them saw playing time.

The mission of the XFL, what the “league of opportunity” has been preaching really came to fruition.

“The success of XFL players during Week 1 of the NFL Preseason proves what they can bring to teams at the next level,” said Marc Ross, XFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations. “We look forward to following their progress throughout the upcoming NFL season, as we know this is the beginning for many of them.”

A total of 50 XFL players have thus far signed with the NFL.
